Fédération des parents francophones de Terre-Neuve et du Labrador (FPFTNL)

The Fédération des parents francophones de Terre-Neuve et du Labrador (FPFTNL), established in 1989 by a group of parents, advocates for French-speaking parents and children. Currently, FPFTNL is the sole provider of French preschool and after-school services in the province, serving as a crucial link between school, family, and community.

FPFTNL believes in the importance of quality early childhood educators (ECEs) and provides annual training for the educators in their services.

The French-speaking preschool services offered by FPFTNL provide children living in a linguistic minority environment the opportunity to:

  • play, sing, speak and ask questions in their language during the key years of their linguistic and cultural development;
  • acquire the language basics and develop their cultural identity if they speak little or no French;
  • participate in a positive and inclusive environment in which the child can be proud of their language and culture.

Offering 14 direct services annually, FPFTNL plays a vital role in the lives of over 300 families through the provision of preschools, after-school programs, inclusive french environments for families, and play groups from September to June.

In addition, FPFTNL supports the development of new services and contributes to job creation in the French language. FPFTNL is part of the National Commission of Francophone Parents (CNPF) and represents French-speaking parents at provincial, regional, and national levels to address the needs of the community and protect their rights.
